Trip to Tokyo

As part of our marathon recovery plan, we walked over five miles up and down the streets of Tokyo sightseeing. Our first stop was the Imperial Palace, but the gardens are closed on Mondays. After that we caught the train to Shinjuku where the marathon started. In Shinjuku we visited the observatory on the 45th floor of the Metropolitan Building. Then we walked around Harajuku and came home. I know it doesn't sound like much, but try doing it the day after running 26.2 miles and walking seven miles. The whole time Terri Lynn was waddling around, struggling up and down stairs. We even had to carry her up and down a few flights. She really gave it her all yesterday.

Walking around the Imperial Palace

Terri Lynn is actually coming down the stairs, not going up!

We added the pictures from our trip to Tokyo today in the album called "Veness' Visit Japan" so please check them out.

Boston Qualifier

At the Tokyo Marathon, Terri Lynn qualified for the Boston Marathon today. Her time from when she crossed the starting line until the finish line was almost exactly 3:30:00, maybe even a few seconds under. That is 10 minutes faster than she needs to qualify. It also put her in 233rd place out of about 6190 women. That is the top 4%. I am very proud of her. We will post pictures tomorrow.

Click here to see Chris' unofficial time. Click here to see Terri Lynn's unofficial time. Remember that it took four to five minutes before we crossed the starting line because it was so crowded.

At the Tokyo Marathon each runner has a chip on thier shoe. The chip trackes each of us as we run. If you are interesting in following our progress as we run, go to the web site http://tokyo42195.org. It is in Japanese but you can probably figure it out. If not, there is a link for English. Find the page where you put in our bib number. Here are our numbers:
Chris - 27791
Terri Lynn - 50581
Uncle Jeff - 30322

The race starts at 9:10 a.m. Tokyo time. In California that is 4:10 p.m., Arizona it's 5:10 p.m., and Oshawa it's 7:10 p.m. I think. We will be running for about three and a half hours.

Now you can track us and cheer us on.
