Most of this summer has been shooting weddings leaving very little time to shoot stock and commercial. As much as I love shooting weddings I have decided to focus primarily on stock and commercial shoots. I'm not completely stopping shooting weddings. I'll work referrals only. I'm just not doing any promotions or advertising other than leaving my portfolio on my site. The information and price list have been moved to the following link - http://chrisfutcher.com/wedding/ - and are no longer found under my info tab. Even though I am taking less weddings, if for some reason you just feel like I am the person you want to photograph your wedding, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail us.
Just thought it was time to share more pictures. Trying to squeeze weddings into our busy commercial and stock schedule has been a fun challenge this summer. Here are some pictures from three very recent weddings here in Canada. To see more check out my wedding portfolio.

May and June were incredible months for stock photo shoots but now that it's July and soon to be August so we are shifting into wedding mode. We've already been to Napa Valley, California and Barrie, Ontario and will soon be in Edmonton, Banff, and Red Deer, Alberta then to Muskoka, Ontario to finish off the wedding season. Last year May and September were our strongest stock months and it is looking like it will be similar this year.
This year's weddings have already brought it's share of worries, learning, and laughs.
Worry - Being forced to check in my camera bag instead of carry it on because it was over the carry-on weight of 22 lbs.
Learning - Let my wife or other family member watch my carry-on as I check my baggage in so they can't weigh it.
Laugh - Accidentally nudging an organ music book off the balcony into a woman's lap during a wedding ceremony... oops!
Isn't that what wedding photography and even life in general is all about? A little bit of worrying, a lot of learning, and in the end laughing about it all.
I think the photographer has to be one of the busiest people on the wedding day. There is a lot to keep track of while making sure to get the shot perfectly in changing light and new environments. On top of that there is only one shot at capturing the perfect moment before it's gone. But for me, it is easy compared to the preparation, organization, coordination, set-up, and flawless execution of a stock or commercial shoot. Both have their challenges and the pressure is on either way. I think weddings are primarily captured, stock and commercial shoots are conceived and created.
I'm just glad that it's my job to photograph lifestyle, relationships, people interacting and not just water bottles or clouds.
Shooting a wedding is a nice change from the routine of stock photo shoots. Ryan and Heidi had a fun and unique outdoor wedding on the campus of Pacific Union College in Angwin, California. Both of them were easy to work with and photogenic. Some of the unique features of the wedding were the 2:11 p.m. start time, white Converse shoes for the whole wedding party including the bride, no bouquet for the bride, pie instead of cake, and a unity tree instead of candle. Ryan and Heidi both have a love for the outdoors and service. They also have very fun loving personalities that are easy to be friends with.
Here is a preview of Ryan and Heidi's wedding. No filters or other dramatic enhancements have been applied yet.

I consider myself primarily a stock and commercial photographer. But sometimes I get asked to twist in a little bit of portraiture, fine art, and post processing. These images of a brother and sister with lollipops were taken for stock. The editing and localized colour effect was added because the children's mother mentioned during the shoot that she saw a similar picture done and would love to have it for herself. Even though this is not really something I do a lot of I though I'd share them with you.
For those curious about lighting, for the top and bottom image I have a lastolite reflector in my left hand and for the middle image there is an umbrella for fill light only.
